Flight Tip

BMS update 4 has improved the joystick axis detection and the addition of dead zones is no longer necessary for stability in flight.

This site is dedicated to the Combat Flight Simulator called Falcon BMS.

Falcon BMS

Since 2005, I have discovered the world of Virtual Combat Flight Simulators. It all started with a bunch of Arcade like war games where you really only had to point and shoot to get it done, but that quickly became boring. So I started looking for something a little more realistic. Something that would put me in the middle of the action and would make me feel like I was there. A bit demanding you say?

In 1997, Microprose came out with Falcon 4, a final attempt at creating the most realistic Combat Flight Simulator in existence. The Lead Software Engineer for this project Mr. Kevin Klemmick worked on the Artificial Intelligence living inside this simulator for over 7 years and himself said he would never put himself through something of that magnitude again. But something he did not expect I am sure, is that the Falcon community would support his work all the way until now. It's longevity is due to the excellent work put into its creation, but also in large part to the falcon community wich brought improvements that kept this simulator at the top of the list for hardcore virtual combat pilots. Many versions of the original product made their appearance over the years. Some better than others. There was even a company called Lead Pursuit who came out with The version called Falcon "Allied Force" wich was a magnificent attempt at reviving the original Falcon. But they stopped their support for it and never came out with a new version and with the growing need for realism in a simulator this latest official version of Falcon left the community with wanting more.

And after almost losing hope for a candidate to replace our beloved Falcon, An underground group of programmers from the community got together one last time, put their knowledge together and came out with the latest hardcore underground combat flight simulator available to the public. This group is called Benchmark Sims. They have given us back our Falcon and boy did they give it a serious upgrade. The graphics, the special effects, the aerodynamism and the cockpit avionics, the sounds. Basically, they made it into a brand new sim.

It's fly-by-wire technology gives you an immersion level that is unparalleled. You really feel like your sitting in a F-16 with all the functionnal controls in front of you. This is why a certain amount of training is necessary to control this beast. Of course it is not the real thing, but it is as close as you'll ever get. And the best part of it is that it's free.

So, as I go deeper into this sim's virtual world, I will try to communicate to you what I have learned about handling and operating it. In the hopes that you too will become a fan, adding to the Falcon community. And as time goes on, I will be adding more documents for you to read and use.

Long life and clear skies...
